Full Float 14 Bolt Disc Brake Conversion Kit (SRW)
Our disc brake conversion kit is the best conversion to eliminate the drum brakes on a full float 14 Bolt Rear Axle, in many cases it is less expensive to switch to disc brakes than to rebuild drum brakes. Changing from drum brakes to disc brakes is easy, and all the parts you need to complete the conversion and get rid of those heavy drum brakes are included in this kit. The 14 bolt axle is common in Chevy / GM fullsize trucks from 1973 until today in the 3/4 ton and 1 ton range. These will work on a 73'-87' axle, these will only work on housings where the drum is mounted on the back of the wheel hub (non slip over drum). To double check, measure from the 4 bolt mounting flange to the surface the wheel studs press up against (back of hub), should be about 4 11/16"
Important
- Requires steel wheel minimum 15" with a maximum 4" back spacing or larger aluminum wheels.
Note
- Fits 73-87 single rear wheel full float 14 bolt housings, this does not work with dually hubs or wheels
- This is for Full Float axles only, does not work on Semi Float
- Rotor installs onto the backside of the hub!
- 1973-87 factory studs generally work but if longer studs are needed, usually dually studs are long enough. Here is a list of the many different studs that were made for these housings: Dorman
- Double check stud diameter, studs should drop freely into the rotor. DO NOT press studs into the rotor. If your hub has too large of studs you will need to drill the rotors to accept them. Be sure to have minimum 5/8" lug nut thread engagement once the wheel is installed
- Don't forget to re-bleed your brakes once you've installed your new conversion kit.
- A manual adjusting Proportioning Valve is recommended, this will allow you to fine tune your front/rear stopping power bias. Your front axle should always do about 70% of the work.
- If your vehicle has a residual valve (can be located within the master cylinder or externally) you will want to remove it. Not doing so can cause your rear brakes to drag or lock up
- Don't forget to re-bleed your brakes once you've installed your new conversion kit.
